Yellowstone Park Day One

We drove into Yellowstone Park yesterday morning.  I have never been there before and it is amazing!  We did not see a lot of critters but the parts of the park that we saw were awesome!

There was a lot of road work going on but the crowds weren't huge so it wasn't too bad.  Grumpy got a nap in at one traffic stop!  The weather was perfect!

After a long day of driving around sightseeing, we decided to leave through the North Entrance rather than the East Entrance where we came in near Cody.  ha ha ha!  Three hours later we made it home!  We ended up driving through the middle of Montana, but it was a nice drive and beautiful country.

Things I regret not taking a picture of so far:
- The bison eating at the side of the road.  I thought we would see more.  We did not.  Maybe Monday.
- The elks that we saw walking across the "sandbar" of the lake.  No place to stop.
- The guy at Walmart wearing a kilt.  I have seen men wearing kilts before but none of them were good looking.  This one was.

California, Utah, and Wyoming

Fireball
Our first real stop in our new RV life was Southern California where we got to visit with family and friends -- fun birthday party, breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and more than just a little bit of wine!  I also had a tooth pulled!  Yay me!

We are still working on getting our fridge fixed!  The temporary fan is fine for now, but we had to toss all the food.  The only thing left is some Fireball in the freezer.  Priorities!!  So dinner is wine with ice and crackers.

Next, Utah!  We had the privilege of parking for one night at the Western Sky Aviation Warbird Museum in St. George.  We definitely appreciated the spot to park overnight for free, but unfortunately the museum was not open while we were there.  We'll have to come back to check it out another time -- it looks awesome!  We also got to visit with an old friend of mine who (whom?) I have not seen in 10+ years.  No, really it's more like 30+years!  Okay 40 years!  There.  I said it!  It was great seeing him and reminiscing -- with no embarrassing stories told.  (Except the cookie story which still makes me laugh out loud!)

We made it to Wyoming!  We are loving the cool weather!  I have to confess, though, that riding as a passenger in the RV while going 60-80 MPH is a white knuckler!  And the wind is not my friend, whether driving or not.  Will we be blown off the road?  Will we tip over?  Is it an earthquake?  Help me!!

Weekly Summary:  Our closet rod broke AGAIN.  It fell twice before but this time it actually broke.  We brought ants from California to Utah and Wyoming.  My extracted tooth still hurts.  We got a good sized scratch on the RV trying to pull into one of the RV parks.  But finally, I found BoxaValium.

Dream to Reality!

This is our first travel blog post -- the one where we are trying to get ourselves on the road!

We sold our beautiful lake house in Texas, but we are taking so many wonderful memories with us.  We feel confident that we left the house in loving hands.  And we are finally heading out to travel the country in our motorhome!

We had a very fast escrow (15 days!) and were hastily throwing our stuff into the RV two hours before our escrow closing appointment.  It took us six days to unpack and put everything away.

All cleaned up!

We are heading to Southern California first to visit family and friends -- to show off our new home, eat birthday cake, spill wine, and have some laughs.

Day Two on the Road:  We made it to our second stop.  No travel problems, but our refrigerator quit working!  We threw away most of our food and bought styrofoam ice chests.  It's a good thing wine does not have to be refrigerated, right?!  We've had no luck in finding someone to fix the fridge so we're on ice until we get to our final destination.  We drove through a lot of construction, which made us realize we didn't put things away properly!  Our laptops ended up on the floor, and cookie sheets and parts of the Keurig were flying around!  Scary sounds while speeding down the highway!

Day Three on the Road:  Everything started out great this morning!  Until we drove out of our RV parking spot.  Bouncing, bouncing, BOUNCING!!  We bounced along to a parking lot that we could fit in and ate Krispy Kreme donuts (because donuts) while trying to figure out what the problem was.  Grumpy called Freightliner support who told him to retract the leveling legs to reset the air ride.  Easy enough and it worked!  Later, we missed our turn into the RV park (blaming the GPS of course!).  Because we are towing a car with a tow dolly, we CANNOT back up.  Grumpy has had actual nightmares about this.  And there we were on a dead end road!  We ended up in the dirt and bushes but finally got turned around and parked for the night.  Until...... Grumpy tried to open our closet to change his shirt.  In our escapades somewhere along the road, the whole hanging bar in the closet fell!!  Yes, we are putting all of our clothes away again!!  But wait!  There's more!  Our high-end styrofoam coolers are leaking!  And we discovered the importance of making sure nothing is in the way of the slides when we move them -- like travel pillows and kleenex boxes.  Oops!

We hope to share more of our adventures, photos, messes, and mistakes with you as we go.  Thanks for stopping by!

The Last Chapter

Yes, this is the last chapter.  It’s a sad one.  Grumpy requested that I not tell many people of his health issues.  He had a small stroke i...
